The main reasons why I use Windows 10 are:
- It is modern and supported by Microsoft
- Includes the latest PowerShell v5.0
- Support Arduino via USB OOTB
- Good touch screen mode especially on small screen resolution
There are plenty of negative comments about Windows 10 and many users would prefer to stick with Windows 7 for mission critical applications such as broadcast automation software.
The most common complaint about Windows 10 is automatic updates causing forced reboots at the most inappropriate time and no option to prevent them.
The simple way to prevent these reboots is to run the following command from a command prompt started in Administrator mode.
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU" /v NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
Once this is configured, Windows 10 should be just as reliable as Windows 7 with the inclusion of better Touch support.
I have found a great little PC that has a touch screen, includes Windows 10 and at a fantastic price.
The PiPo X8 and X9 are ideal for running ATEM software and my V-ISE PowerSell solution. See the PiPo Store for more information.
The only catch is that they are 32 bit devices and require a manual process to get the ATEM software running. Just follow these simple instructions How to install Blackmagic ATEM software on 32bit Windows
